What is Cross-Country-Skiing?

Cross-country skiing is a form of skiing in which participants propel themselves across snow-covered terrain using skis and poles. As a sport, cross-country skiing is one of the most difficult endurance sports, as its motions use every major muscle group and it is one of the sports that burns the most calories per hour due to its highly aerobic nature. There are three main styles used in cross-country skiing: classic, skating and telemarking. Specially adapted equipment is available to suit each style.
